Catch
This is a simple game of catch. You control an avatar and play catch with an AI-controlled partner. The challenge of this game is prediction and accuracy. You must predict the trajectory of the ball's arc to precisely throw the ball into your partner's hands and to catch balls coming toward you. This game idea was inspired by fond memories I have of when I was a child, playing catch with my brother. I thought this idea also fit nicely with the recommended simplicity of the project, focusing on a few main mechanics.
The process of making this game went very smoothly. The first week I focused on the basic controls and mechanics of the game such as movement, throwing, catching, and camera control. The second week, I began working on the visual indicator for the ball's arc. This was the most interesting part of the project for me. I had to review a few math and physics concepts which was time consuming, but I was very satisfied with the end result. Next, I worked on the progression in the game, adding ramping difficulty, the menu scene, and the ending scene. Lastly, I worked on the visual design of the game, creating all the models in Maya and adding UI elements. I think I made a good decision of thoroughly planning out the design/development of the whole game before working too much on it. Everything went according to plan and I had allocated just enough time to complete the project in time.
